Job Description

We are currently recruiting on behalf of our well respected and growing food manufacturing client based near Chard. We are assisting them with the recruitment of a Despatch Operative
The company manufacture fresh produce, which needs to be weighed, packed, stored and despatched correctly, to ensure their product is enjoyed by consumers who buy it from supermarkets in the UK. The position offered requires you to accurately pack, wrap, label and handle the product, and record those activities, to ensure the highest possible standards are achieved.
In order to maintain the company standards you will need to work at pace, without compromising quality, be able to work as part of a team, whilst diligently following instructions and adhering to training provided. The requirement to interact with your team members, management, and to record your work activities means you will need to have an acceptable level of numeracy and literacy to perform the role properly.

Main Duties include:
·Ensuring all cheese is cleared for use and is despatched to the correct quality standards.
·Ensuring the correct cheese and packaging is issued to departments in a timely manner.
·Ensuring all checks are completed accurately and on time and that all products are appropriately and accurately labelled, according to customer and company specifications.
·Loading and unloading vehicles (approx. 1-2 per day), completing supplier monitoring tasks as appropriate.
·Working with the Supervisor to optimise cheese stocks, rotating stock and minimising waste
The position that is available is in a department that is like a family, with most jobs relying on good teamwork to ensure satisfactory completion. So as well as being a real team player, other competencies include

·Able to work at a fast pace without compromising quality or safety.
·Understand the importance of food hygiene, traceability and safety and how to achieve the required standards.
·Understand and apply safe working practices.
We would welcome applications from anyone who has previously worked within the dairy / food industry, although this type of experience is not essential.

Basic hours of work are 40 per week Tuesday to Saturday, Typically an 8 – 9 hour day, worked between 9.00am and 5.30pm (includes 30 min unpaid break). However, we must recruit people who are willing to provide a degree of flexibility, with start and finish times. The working pattern will be kept as stable as possible, but flexibility may be required for changes to working days to meet business demands, i.e. to include occasional weekends, and working on some Bank Holidays if required.
Successful applicants must hold a Forklift and Electric Pallet Truck Licences
The starting hourly rate is £8.55, rising to £9.00 subject to satisfactory completion of training/probation (typically 3 – 6 months).
Holidays - 26 days + 8 bank holidays
Enhanced hourly rates for overtime (over 40 hours) and certain time periods, e.g. weekends, bank holidays.
Pension scheme - employer contributions of 6% after 3 months
