Job Description

Smart Recruitment are looking for a Packing Operative for one of our main clients in Chard.

Packing Operatives ensure that the product is weighed, packaged, stored and despatched for our customers to receive and the consumers to enjoy. Duties include:

  • Move products as they become ready for different stages of the maturing and packing process
  • Work as part of a team on a packing line to portion and wrap the product
  • Pack wrapped product into bulk packaging for transport
  • Ensure products are appropriately and accurately labelled
  • Ensure work areas and equipment is kept clean
  • Accurately complete any associated administration

The quality of the products needs to be reliably and consistently maintained, and packing also needs to be performed efficiently, so the successful candidates will need to demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to be a supportive and flexible team member
  • Be diligent in following instructions
  • Be able to work at a fast pace, without compromising quality or safety
  • Understand the importance of food hygiene and how to achieve the required standards
  • Ability to read, write and speak good English, including numerical information
  • Understand the relationship between the way products are stored, and its quality for the consumer

Please note that this position is a Wednesday - Sunday shift pattern and 37 hours a week

Hours are varied according to business need, typically during seasonal promotions (including the period before Christmas), so some flexibility is required.

Additional hours are available at certain times but cannot be guaranteed.

The perishable nature of our products means that work areas are cool, but appropriate clothing is provided.

Training will be provided to ensure that you will be multi skilled, providing variety of work for you and flexibility for the company. Periodically, there may be opportunities for progression to supervisory roles such as Line Leader or Team Leader
